Why Cycling Matters

Cycling is more than just a fun activity; it's a sustainable way of scooting around the island that benefits both us and the environment.

With the continued drive towards greener choices, communities worldwide are working hard to reduce waste ...and Positive Pedals is committed to this end on Bute, reusing and repairing bikes while building bonds within our community!

Our Mission: Repair, Recycle, Ride

How do we do this? We decided to offer

  • Repairs: Offering bike repair services to extend the life of bikes and keep them on the road.
  • Recycling: Promoting the refurbishing of pre-loved bikes to keep them out of landfill.
  • Sales: Providing quality, affordable used bikes for the community to enjoy.

Hands-On Training: Skills for the Future

But that's not all!  We believe that a skilled community is a thriving community. Our hands-on training programmes in bike mechanics equip participants with valuable technical skills that can provide them with wider employability opportunities. Key training areas include:

  • Basic Repairs: Learning how to fix flat tyres, adjust brakes, and maintain bike chains.
  • Advanced Mechanics: Gaining knowledge on more complex repairs and bike modifications.
  • Customer Service Skills: Learning to communicate effectively with customers for better service.

Community Cycling Activities: Bringing People Together

Beyond the technical aspect, Positive Pedals organises various cycling activities to promote community engagement ...and to all have a little cycling fun together!

  • Group Rides: Bike rides across Bute - for all ages and fitness levels.
  • Cycling Workshops: Valuable training sessions on bike safety and maintenance.
  • Family-Friendly Events: Fun initiatives like open days and fundraisers to celebrate cycling culture.

Keep checking back on our Facebook page and our website news to find out about up-and-coming events!

How You Can Get Involved

There are many ways to participate with Positive Pedals, depending on your interests. We'd love you to consider volunteering in our team to help with repairs, training, or organising events. Or if you have a relevant skill you'd like to share in one of our workshops, get in touch and talk to Tony or Shelley, our Directors.

Perhaps you have an old bike, lying in the shed that you know is never going to see the light of day again? If so, we would love to give it a second life! Just get in touch to arrange drop-off (or pick-up if you are unable to bring it to us).

...and of course, if you support what we do and would like to contribute, we are always grateful of any donations!

Being Green Is Fun

At Positive Pedals, we’re not just mad about cycling (which we are:) - we’re helping to cultivate a sustainable mindset on the Isle of Bute. Through our commitment to reducing landfill waste, and offering valuable training and fun cycling activities, we hope to be a small part of helping to build a brighter future for everyone on Bute.

So, please join us! We would love to have you on board - and grow our small community of bike-lovers!
